Finding that special someone online is no longer a characteristic of introverted love seekers. More and more people are turning to technology as a means to find their life partners. In a world where many of us are constantly busy, it may be difficult to find time to search for that special someone.
This is where online dating comes in. With online dating services you are able to brows for other while advertising yourself simultaneously. There are many advantages and some disadvantages of using an online dating service.
Advantages
Convenience: Love is just a click away. Scan hundreds of people from the convenience of your home computer any time of the day. You can do this at home after work or even take a quick look while you are at work (although not recommended)
Cost effectiveness: Save hundreds if not thousands of dollars by prescreening potential candidates. If you see something that you really don’t like about a person you can just click on the next profile. There is no worse feeling than spending $100 on a person only to find out that they are a heavy smoker or have offensive body odor.
Access to a large pool of people: Meet people from not only your area but other parts of your state or even other states. Some have gone as far as meeting people from other countries.
Matching services: Some online dating services offer computerized matching services that match you up with others using several dimensions of compatibility.
Prescreening: Much like an employer is able to take a look over an application or resume before calling, you are able to perform a similar prescreening.
Disadvantages
Meeting others with bad intentions: There are several instances where Mr. Right now preys on Ms. Right. Online dating services have often been criticized as a playing ground for married men and women or those that are just looking for a good time.
Monthly service fees: Although it is much cheaper than conventional dating, you still usually pay a monthly service fee that can range anywhere from $20 to $40 a month. This can equate to nearly $500 a year.
Online dating has many more advantages than disadvantages. If you are single and looking for someone there is likely another person out there right now that you are compatible with that is using an online dating service.
If you are unsure about online dating you can often look over many online dating service websites free of charge. Usually you only pay to participate.
