As America becomes greener by the day, many are turning to clean renewable solar and wind power energy systems to supplement or fully supply the power to their home. With all of the incredible discounts and tax incentives that are currently being offered, it is hard to resist at least considering a renewable energy source for your home.
When it comes to choosing a system, there are several options available. Depending on the area that you live in, you will want to choose between a wind turbine or solar panels. If neither one of these products make sense in the area that you live, this may not be the best choice. Once you have decided which type of system you are interested in installing, the next step is to determine your energy output that is required. Your energy output should be based off of your average energy usage, taking extreme summer and winter highs into consideration. This information can be found on your electric bill or by simply calling the electric company and requesting this information. Some power companies make this information available online.
With this information in hand, start searching around for a system that meets both your needs and your budget. You may want to take a look over the federal tax credits such as the energy star tax credit and any local credits that are available. They often require that you purchase specific types of energy system. Shopping for a system that meets the credit requirement can literally save thousands of dollars.
