As part of the American Recovery and reinvestment act, tax credits such as the energy star tax credit are bring offered that allow homeowners to take advantage of some incredible savings on their incomes taxes. Anyone who has ever considered installing a renewable energy source in their home in the past may want to act now.


Besides saving on your taxes, you can save on your electric bill each month. Depending on the system that you install, it is easy to cut electric bills in half or even completely eliminate them. Using solar panels or wind turbines is a great way to help save the environment while saving a ton of money.

So which type of system do I choose? There are several factors that determine which type of system is good for a particular homeowner. Is your home in a sunny location or are you in a windy area? Another factor that you should consider is whether or not your homeowners association allows you to install a system on your property. Once you have determined the type of system that you are interested in installing, find one that offers the energy output that you desire.

In order to do this, you must know how much energy you consume during each month. Past electric bills or a simple call to the electric company can help you determine this. While everyone would love to completely fall off the power grid, this option may be a bit too expensive for some.

There are other factors that you should consider when deciding whether or not to install a system. Consider the length of time that you plan to reside in your home. If you plan to relocated in the next couple of years, installing a system may not be the best option because you will not be around long enough to reap the benefits.
