Whether you are shopping for a Honda, Cadillac, Jeep or Dodge, you will likely find a vehicle online for a fraction of the cost when compared to a dealership. This is possible because private party sellers do not have the cost associated with running an business and are able to sell their vehicle for much less than a dealership. What this means is that you can negotiate a deal and pay thousands less than you would at a dealer. Purchasing a used car is a great financial decision. Some of the most wealthy American drive vehicles that are several years old because they know that a vehicle is a depreciating asset that does not help to build wealth.
When it comes to making a decision to purchase online, the first thing to do is perform the basic research. If you simply go online and pick the first car that you see, you may get stuck with a problematic vehicle. Be sure to do the research on any vehicle that you may be interested in. Check out what the current asking prices online and determine whether or not it is within your range. Once you have narrowed down your list, search the classified section on Craigslist and start calling around. It’s always a good idea to screen vehicles over the phone prior to driving and seeing them. Ask about mileage, accidents, mechanical problems, etc. Listen closely to their response and if they are hesitant to answer a question, move on.
Create a list of vehicles that you would like to personally inspect. Visually inspect each vehicle for any sings of a collision or leaking fluids. Also listen for abnormal sounds that the vehicle makes. Once you have test driven several vehicles, choose one and bring it to a good mechanic who can check it out and let you know whether or not it is a good buy. Never purchase a car without first having it inspected. A short inspection can literally save thousands in repairs in the future.
Once you have found a vehicle that meets your needs and checks out ok, it’s time to negotiate. When negotiating, be sure to discuss any issues with the seller and give them a reasonable offer. Justify the amount that you are offering by comparing it to other vehicles and deducting money for needed repair. A reasonable seller will understand and will likely work with your. If your seller is not willing to negotiate, it may be time to move on.
Once you have checked it out and agreed upon a price, have the tile notarized by a public notary in your area. Never accept a title that is not notarized. A notary stamp and signature is needed in order to register a vehicle.
